Your role in the Circle Economy team - Summary of the role
As a project manager you will divide your time between Circle Economy and PACE working 1 day a week at the Circle Economy offices in Amsterdam and 4 days a week at PACE at the WRI Europe office in The Hague, the Netherlands.
PACE is a public-private collaboration platform and project accelerator that aims to leverage global public-private leadership to accelerate action towards the circular economy. PACE was created and incubated by the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. To date PACE has achieved significant outputs across its three delivery pillars of driving projects, leveraging global leadership to drive action, and capture and disseminate learnings for scale, and has formulated ambitions to scale-up.
The Project Manager is responsible for all programmatic, coordination, administrative, oversight, outreach, and accounting matters related to one or more PACE projects, being core and/or affiliate projects. In particular, he/she will liaise with project leads, project partners as well as with key contacts in PACE members as well as non-member organizations pursuing synergetic or complimentary efforts.
In consultation with project partners and PACE staff, the Project Manager oversees the implementation of the PACE work plan as it relates to his/her assigned project(s), manages day-to-day operational aspects, supports the development and/or recruitment of new core respectively associate projects to PACE, and is responsible for tracking project progress and performance and ensuring project compliance with internal and external contract and other requirements.
Furthermore, the Project Manager closely collaborates with the PACE Knowledge Manager and the PACE knowledge partners in ensuring the capturing of learnings from PACE projects with a view of turning them into replicable content for dissemination; and with the PACE Engagement Manager supporting the engagement and recruitment of PACE member as organizations and other key stakeholders for their active participation in or liaison with PACE core and affiliate projects, as well as for the effective dissemination of project learnings.
The Project Manager will lead for one or more PACE workstreams or focus areas, including for core or affiliate projects or project components related to circular jobs and skills.
Work with PACE staff and PACE knowledge partners to (further) develop the PACE work plan as it pertains to his/her project(s)
Work with PACE staff, PACE member organizations and other stakeholders to identify needs and contribute to shaping respectively recruiting large-scale public-private collaborative core and/or affiliate projects that will lead to tangible impact and replicable learnings for moving circular economy uptake and outcomes forward
The Project Manager will hold specific responsibility for engaging in project management activities for PACE core respectively affiliate projects or their project components as they relate to circular jobs and skills. This includes the anticipated liaison with the emerging Centre of Excellence for Circular Jobs and Skills at PACE knowledge partner Circle Economy
Work with PACE staff and core project / knowledge partners to help them understand and meet contract and other relevant requirements
Work with PACE staff, project leads, and PACE knowledge partners to support the identification and capturing of learnings from PACE projects
Work with PACE staff, PACE member organizations and other stakeholders to support the dissemination of PACE project learnings
Work with Circle Economy staff in particular with those who are involved in and/or leading ongoing and developing PACE projects, both core and affiliate projects
Monitor and manage project and related PACE program progress and deliverables, and ensure that related (contract) requirements are met, and institutional and donor reporting is updated regularly and submitted promptly
Help ensure project-related expenditures remain within budget allocations, and project and related PACE program deliverables can be met on-time, within scope and budget, particularly as this pertains to PACE core projects
Maintain an understanding of donor and WRI Europe policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight, as they relate to the delivery of PACE projects
Work with PACE staff and WRI’s M&E team to help establish a project-specific monitoring, evaluation and reporting system that tracks and captures relevant information from both core and affiliate projects, further improve the system over time, and support the delivery of information from the system to meet both internal needs and donor reporting requirements
Develop credibility with and maintain good relationships with relevant project stakeholders at the regional, national and subnational levels, including PACE program and project partners and donors and PACE member organizations
Lead, provide support to, and participate in relevant project, internal and external meetings and events
Contribute to the development of new ideas for the PACE Project Pillar to ensure effective and impactful delivery of the PACE program’s objectives as they relate to projects and their learnings
Performs other duties as assigned
An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in business, international development, environmental science, public policy, political science, international relations, or other relevant fields.
Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an environmental, natural resources or waste management related field and/or in business innovation and technology.
Experience managing projects in non-profit, governmental, or private sector settings, preferably with experience of project management in an international context
Familiarity with circular economy concepts and thinking is preferred.
Demonstrated familiarity financial management experience in developing and administering project budgets.
Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. government officials, private sector parties, academics, representatives of national and sub-national civil society organizations)
Highly responsible, self-motivated, with an ability to work in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a team
Very well organized and efficient
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities
Ability to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines and competing demands
Strong writing, research and computer skills
Experience of working internationally, particularly in a developing or emerging economy context, preferred.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation is a plus.
Willingness and ability to travel within the Netherlands and internationally when needed (max. 25-50% of time)
High integrity, passion for sustainable development, and good sense of humor preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English; knowledge of a second language, such as Dutch, French, Spanish, or Chinese desirable
What we offer you
For this role, we are offering an initial 1 year contract for 40 hours per week. Salary is competitive, keeping in mind we are a nonprofit organisation.
