Consultant - Circle Finance Programme

Job description

Junior Sustainability Consultant with excellent writing and research skills

The circular economy is a concept gaining rapid traction. The dominant model of consumption worldwide follows a “take-make-waste” pattern, but its degradative environmental impact is increasingly clear. Moving to a circular economy entails the transition to a circular way of consumption, which is restorative and regenerative by design. Countries, national governments and businesses are progressively shaping their strategies to support investment towards circular economy agendas.

Circle Economy is a social enterprise with an international team that develops practical and scalable solutions to accelerate the adoption of the circular economy. We are growing rapidly both in the Netherlands and around the world through strategic partnerships with governments, cities, and businesses. We offer Circle Scans to businesses, cities and nations, drawing on deep expertise, including in the areas of textiles, the built environment, finance, circular design, and on jobs and skills in the circular economy. At Circle Economy, we have a culture of getting things done while having fun, and apart from friendly and open team dynamics, you can expect a drink in your hand every other Friday.

We are looking for an enthusiastic junior consultant with excellent writing and research skills and 1-3 years of relevant working experience who wants to play a vital role in increasing the transition to a circular economy by applying his/her affinity with businesses, finance and circularity. You will join our growing Finance team, but will also work closely with our Business Strategy team. You will have a critical role in the execution of research, consultancy and collaboration projects, in which you will support the development of the required fact base that underlie all our project outcomes. You will work together with senior consultants, project managers, data analysts, and designers to develop and present the findings that should convince stakeholders of the need and value of circular economy strategies for businesses, and the various means by which they can be financed.

Our Finance team works with a variety of financial institutions and businesses to accelerate the circular economy. Finance is the enabler to increase the transition to a circular economy. Enterprises launching a circular business model enter a pioneering space in the economic sector. A novelty for markets and investors. The relative absence of knowledge of the factors driving financeability and the lack of a track record of circular business models together with uncertain consumer demand have hindered the progress of new circular business models.

The Business Strategy team combines professional strategy consultancy with an ambition to accelerate the adoption of the circular economy. We support corporate clients to identify the practical and scalable strategies that will bring them value from circular economy strategies. To this end, we have developed a unique approach which combines business intelligence, visual design and strategic consultancy.

  • Conduct qualitative research, such as literature reviews, sector reviews, interviews, questionnaires, etc. that will inform the search for best practices, barriers to implementation and drivers for change.

  • Actively contribute to the development of solutions, and work closely with clients to validate and develop insights.

  • Writing convincing storylines and advice, backed with solid arguments, summarising the project outcomes in inspiring reports.

  • Providing expert advice in external and internal meetings on potential transition pathways, and related investments.

  • Co-writing and publishing position papers that demonstrate our thought leadership.

You have a relevant academic degree in Finance, Business Administration, Sustainability, or a similar field.

You have 1-3 years working experience in the financial sector and/or corporate sector and proven affinity with both sectors.

You have excellent writing skills in English and preferably Dutch.

You have proven research skills, both, during your academic studies and in a professional setting.

You have proficiency in advisory processes based upon business analytics, workshops, qualitative research, or a combination of these.

You have dedicated interest in finance related work with businesses and the global financial sector.

You have a keen passion for systemic change, circular economy and innovation.

You are a team player: a proactive, autonomous and fun character, able to think and work strategically in a team as well as independently.

For this role, we are offering an initial 12-month contract for 32-40 hours per week. At the end of the contract, a further extension of the contract will be discussed. Salary and benefits are competitive within the not-for-profit sector.

We offer a challenge for a passionate person who is impact-driven and wants to take on responsibilities within a vibrant and talented team in a pioneering organisation.
