Circle Cities Program Intern

We are looking for a highly motivated (English and DUTCH speaking) cities intern to join Circle Economy’s circular cities programme in Amsterdam. Circle Economy is a highly energised, cooperative social enterprise with a team from around the globe that develops practical and scalable tools and programs that accelerate the adoption of the circular economy. We are growing rapidly both in the Netherlands and around the world and want to share and engage media, governments, cities, business and citizens in the work that we do, our groundbreaking partnerships and most of all in the practical ways of addressing the great sustainability issues of the day. The cities programme works with cities worldwide to foster the circular economy.
Who you are
You are an independent, self-starting Master's student in the field of Sustainable Development, Energy Science, Industrial Ecology, Urban Metabolism, Urban Planning, or Environmental Sciences. You are passionate about sustainability and would like to use your expertise to help cities transition to a circular economy. You have strong analytical skills and able to tackle complex problems. Your are looking for a perfect learning environment to broaden your expertise in the application of the circular economy within cities.
The objective of this internship is to support the Cities team in the development and research of the cities programme. The Circle Cities program identifies opportunities to foster a circular economy and aids in the creation of practical and scalable solutions to implement circular systems throughout a city. For this we are doing a scan to map the metabolism (resource flows) in a city, formulating a future vision for sectors within the city, and implementing strategies to achieve the future circular vision. We are looking for an intern that can support in making a circular strategy for the city of Amsterdam, in relation to the doughnut economic framework.
In the Intern’s service hereunder the Intern shall have the position of Intern cities program. In this position you will have a supporting role in the following activities:
Research on the Doughnut Economics framework in relation to cities
Research on circular strategies for the Construction, Biomass and consumables sector.
Collecting policy documents from cities and best practices from around the world of innovative circular strategies
Research the indicators to measure circularity within cities
Assisting in the project management of the cities programme
Assisting with communication with local stakeholders
Collecting circular strategies that city can use to accelerate the circular economy
CE has a culture of ‘get things done while having fun’. We have an open office space and a lively and dynamic atmosphere. We are located conveniently near Amsterdam Centraal Station, multiple tram, metro and train stops — but most people bike to work. We have bi-weekly Friday afternoon drinks in the office where you can expect a beer in your hand by 4pm.
What we offer
A paid internship for a minimum of 4 days a week for a period of 4-6 months, ideally in a full-time capacity, to start in January. We offer paid internships of €400 per month for Master’s level education based on full-time employment and can provide a travel stipend, if necessary. Required Skills and Background
Masters student in Sustainable Development, Energy Science, Industrial Ecology, Urban Metabolism, or Environmental Sciences
You have an interest in or affinity with sustainability and the principles of Circular Economy.
You are good with numbers and have strong analytical skills
You are a creative self-starter (proactive and independent) who knows how to deal with deadlines.
You have strong communication skills, both written and spoken, in English and Dutch
You are detail oriented and thrive in executing complex relationships and tasks; you like to see projects move from beginning to end.
